Taunton and Pickeridge going strong despite Covid

DESPITE the difficulties that Taunton and Pickeridge has had to contend with in 2020 ,chairman Andy Rhodes, says that the club has come through the year mostly unscathed

“This is thanks to the small army of volunteers who willingly give their time to the Board of Directors, and the various Committees and Sections, to ensure that T&P focusses on what it can do, rather than what it is prevented from doing, during these challenging times,” Rhodes said

The chairman outlined some of the strategies that have been put introduced at the club to enable it to continue to function successfully.

“The Golf and Handicap teams, supplemented with volunteer starters, came up with processes to maintain both casual and competitive golf within the Social Distancing guidelines.

“The Pro-Shop and Clubhouse teams developed procedures and offerings to meet demands, including a mobile food and beverage service whilst the Clubhouse was forcibly closed.

“The Greenkeeping team maintained the course superbly through the first lockdown, bringing it back ready for play at 24 hours notice, and then completed two major course projects during the November lockdown.’

“Members have been considerate, unselfish and appreciative of the efforts to keep golf available.”

Membership at T&P is now even stronger than it was before the pandemic as Rhodes explained .

“We have attracted many new members and we may soon have to close the membership, starting a waiting list, a position we haven’t been in for a few years.”

The chairman added: “Golf Clubs remain good exercise, offer a lifetime of learning, participation and challenge, get competitive juices flowing and provide the perfect social setting for discussing successes, failures and near misses. T& P is one of the best, come and join us!”
