Pape to consider his playing future at end of season

FORMER Bristol, Gloucester, Hartpury and Launceston second row Steve Pape has admitted he is considering quitting playing at the end of the season.

"I'm 36 now and I need to take a backward step from a playing point of view," said Pape who is in his second season playing and coaching Weston side Hornets.
The former GB judo expert left himself out of the side which beat Thornbury 33-12 last weekend. Ironically it is the first game he has missed this season and he described it as "the side's best display of the season so far."
"They came back after the Christmas break and played to the best of their ability," he said. "I thought their enthusiasm was outstanding.
"I'm looking forward to the rest of the season," added Pape who said: "I intend to play again this season.
"At my age the body is not as good as it has been. At the moment I will continue to play but I'm not sure about next season. I have to think this out seriously because there will be a day when I cannot play any more."
