Injured jockey dies after Taunton fall

ON Monday morning it was reported that jockey Lorna Brooke had passed away following a fall at Taunton Racecourse earlier this month.

The 37 year amateur was riding Orchestrated for her mother Lady Brooke which fell at the third fence in the penultimate event which was a handicap chase over 2miles eight furlongs on April 8th.

The injured jockey, who rode 17 winners in her career, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital where she was in intensive care for observation and tests on a spinal injury. Following complications on Friday she was placed in an induced coma and sadly passed away earlier this week.

Immediately after the announcement was made Taunton Racecourse posted the following message on their twitter account-

“All at Taunton Racecourse are deeply saddened by the tragic news of Lorna Brooke’s death as a result of injuries sustained in a race-riding fall at our meeting on Thursday 8th April. Our thoughts and condolences are with Lorna’s family and friends during this time.”

“At our forthcoming meeting on Wednesday 21st April we will pay our respects to Lorna’s memory with a period of silence and all will wear black armbands.”
