Tom Scudamore wins Scottish Grand National

TOM Scudamore added another first to his list of achievements over his long and illustrious career when he rode Mighty Thunder to victory in the Scottish Grand National at Ayr on Sunday.

The 8-1 shot was lying in second place with two fences remaining but urged on by Scudamore the 8 year old produced a late run the take victory by a three quarters of a length.

Scudamore said afterwards: “We didn’t have the best of starts, and from then on it was hard work but we got across the line in front which is what matters.

However on this occasion Tom Scudamore wasn’t riding for David Pipe instead he was riding for Scottish based Lucinda Russell who is the partner of Tom’s father Peter, who also rode for the Pipe Stable when Martin was in charge at the Pond House Yard.

The jockey who has now ridden 61 winners this campaign added: “This has to be one of the highlights of my season.”
