Taunton racing set to start on October 28th

TAUNTON Racecourse are due to host their first meeting of the 2020/21 season on October 28th but sadly in common with all other racing fixtures because of the ongoing Covid 19 situation it will be behind close doors, meaning that there will be no admission to the public.

However there is good news for local punters because Taunton Racecourse are planning to host a series of Saturday Raceday Lunches, the first of which will take place on November 14th, Paddy Power Day at Cheltenham.

The seven race card at the home of national hunt racing kicks off at 12.40pm with the big event of the afternoon The Paddy Power Gold Cup Steeple Chase over two and a half miles due off at 2.25pm. The last race on the card is at 4pm.

On the day guests can enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, which can be anytime after 11am, and two course lunch, followed by afternoon tea.

Racegoers will be able to enjoy the services of an in house bookmaker in addition to which there will be a tipster- Martin Higgs will be there on the the day to go through each race card....

The whole event has been planned to comply with the latest Covid 19 guidelines from the government, with a clearly defined one way system in place and face masks to be worn at all times except when seated at the table.

Tables will be limited to six people and once seated guests will be expected to remain at their table and refrain from mixing with other tables.

The Saturday Raceday Lunch at Taunton Racecourse on November 14th will be hosted in the Orchard Restaurant which enjoys superb views of the Blackdown Hills and across Taunton and costs just £30 per person.

Guy Wolfenden the marketing manager at the racecourse said: “We realize that many of our members and regulars are missing live racing and thought that our Saturday Racdeay Lunches might help to go a little way to providing a racing atmosphere among like minded people in a racing environment for them to enjoy. If this first venture is a success then we may well look to repeat it in the coming weeks.”

To book your place for the opening Saturday Raceday Lunch please log onto tauntonracecourse.co.uk or call Troy on 01823 337172
