Runners expecting tough conditions in West race

THE annual Wellington Road Race tomorrow (Sun) is expected to attract 300 of the West's top runners.

The race is one of the toughest events of its kind in the Westcountry. It covers 6.27 miles, much of it off-road, and is again being organised by Taunton Athletic Club.
It starts at the Catherine Wheel pub in Hemyock village square and the route climbs and circles the ironic monument before returning to the local primary school. Finishers will receive an award, mull wine and a mince pie.
A good range of refreshments will be available - both before and after the race.
One worrying aspect for the organisers is the state of the course after this week's heavy rain.
