TAUNTON Quantock sponsored by Mecca Bingo, played Paulton’s Vipers in the first division losing 37-67. Quantock anticipated a tough game against second-placed Vipers and had a slow start with just six players, struggling to find their flow. Despite Mel coming to the rescue and completing the team, Vipers led the first quarter 9-18.

Quantock struggled to break down Vipers’ defence and they pulled further away (19-34). Despite some good passages of play from Quantock and some lovely shots from Helen and Maisie, Vipers continued to build on their lead (28-51). Quantock continued to fight until the final whistle but it was Vipers who took the win.

POM was Helen Lucas, OPOM was Abbey Teape. The squad: GS Helen Lucas, GA Maisie Reynolds, WA Molly White/Mel Reynolds, C Abbey Teape/Molly White, WD Abbey Teape/Sharlie White, GD Sharlie White/Abbey Teape, GK Melissa Cleverly.
Blackdown, sponsored by Mortgage Select, travelled to play Bridgwater’s Venus in the second division winning 49-47. The first quarter saw Blackdown come out firing throughout the court with tight marking from all players. It was a tight quarter to start with as both teams held a strong defence, but Blackdown took a slight lead (11-9).

Blackdown came out stronger again in the second quarter, with rebounds from Venus’ shots making their way to Blackdown’s hands and making its way beautifully down the court to the shooters (24-18). In the third quarter, Blackdown’s attackers came out strong and made it hard for Venus to intercept passes with good conversions to goal (36-30). Venus displayed some strong defence in the final quarter, making Blackdown work hard, however all players fought hard until the final whistle to clinch the well-deserved win.

POM was Victoria Saban, OPOM was Lucy Cox. The squad: GS Lucy Cox, GA Lucy Hird, WA Kate Stubbins, C Jess Larkman, WD Victoria Saban, GD Gracie Stevens/Verity Ward, GK Sophia Valmiki.
