A MIDWEEK interclub fixture saw Blackdown, sponsored by Mortgage Select, take on fellow club mates Tudor, sponsored by Marked Skin, for the first time this season winning 58-24.

The first quarter was tough with both sides fighting hard with amazing defensive work from both sides, but it was Blackdown who found themselves ahead 14-7. Tudor came out fighting in the second quarter with excellent defensive work to limit Blackdown’s shooting opportunities, but Blackdown held strong with interceptions from Ali at GD and Victoria at WD to keep hold of their lead (26-15). Blackdown’s attack came out strong in the third quarter, with some excellent play down the court to the shooters who duly converted (48-19). The final quarter saw the intensity of the game rise with a last push from Tudor, but Blackdown’s defence held strong, ensuring a high number of turnovers, with solid work throughout the court to get the ball to goal. Blackdown’s POM was Tasha Levy, Tudor’s POM was Ally Gabell. Blackdown squad: GS Lucy Cox, GA Tasha Levy, WA Kate Stubbins, C Louise Frost, WD Victoria Saban, GD Ali White, GK Rhonda Robins. Tudor squad: GS Lucy Hird, GA Maddy Russell, WA Ally Gabell, C Ellie Murray/Jess Larkman, WD Libby Binding, GD Halyey Milne, GK Tanya Binding.

Tone, sponsored by The Kings Arms, played unbeaten Galmington’s Claremont in the premier division winning 58-43. Anticipating a tough game, Tone started strong and managed to take an early lead of 17-9. A more even second quarter followed with Claremont finding their feet a little, but Tone fought to maintain their lead (31-22). Tone pulled further away in the third quarter (46-34) and worked hard as a team to consolidate their win in the final quarter. POM was Hannah Robins, OPOM was Jade Barnett. The squad: GS Fee Grammer, GA Jade Barnett, WA Ruby Porter, C Hannah Robins, WD Kim Tong, GD Lauren Knight, GK Lucy Jones.

Priory, sponsored by Matt Durbin Associates, played Blackdown, sponsored by Mortgage Select, in their first interclub game in the second division with Blackdown taking the game 58-24. POM for Priory was Ellie Tolman, OPOMs were Denise Evely and Gugu Mlotshwa. POMs for Blackdown were Tasha Levy and Victoria Saban, OPOM was Victoria Saban. Priory’s squad: GS Ellie Murray, GA Zoe Stacey, WA Andrea Dobson, C Sarah Hughes, WD Gugu Mlotshwa, GD Denise Evely, GK Ellie Tolman. Blackdown’s squad: GS Lucy Cox, GA Tasha Levy, WA Kate Stubbins, C Louise Frost, WD Victoria Saban, GD Ali White, GK Rhonda Robins.

Tudor, sponsored by Marked Skin, played Galmington’s Queensway in the third division losing 27-55. Despite some great tips and interceptions by the defence, Queensway pulled ahead leading the first quarter 7-14.

Tudor struggled to keep possession in the centre court and Queensway kept their lead in the second quarter (13-26). After a third quarter where some of the team tried playing in different positions, the team went into the final quarter tailing 18-42. Back in their original positions, Tudor played their final and strongest quarter and pulled back some of the difference. Some great interceptions and tips both in the centre court and defensive third as well as some fantastic ‘straight in the net’ goals by both shooters. POM was Hayley Milne. The squad: Lucy Hird, Maddy Russell, Charlotte Owen, Ally Gabell, Charlotte O’Leary, Libby Binding, Hayley Milne, Tanya Binding.
