Check out the Yeovil Netball teams at the weekend

YEOVIL Netball Club teams were in action over the weekend, and your Sport South West has got match reports from all of them below.

Abbey v Wyndham
Final Score - 33 37

The first quarter began with both teams pretty evenly matched. Wyndham came out determined to get a win this week, working hard to get the balls into the shooters. Abbey were not making it easy for us but Wyndham ended the first quarter with a 2 goal lead.
The second quarter saw Wyndham focus on man marking and looking for the easier safer ball into the shooters. With the attack offering support on the circle edge and some good balls in, the shooters converted them into goals. It was still a close quarter and Wyndham couldn’t let their guard down. This quarter ended 17-16 to Wyndham.
With 1 goal in it the decision going into the 3rd Quarter was to make a few changes and bring on some fresh legs. Wyndham came out fighting, the defensive duo worked hard to get interceptions and rebounds allowing the attack to work the ball up court. Wyndham’s hard work was paying off with the constant pressure from all players causing Abbey to make errors. This quarter ended with Wyndham in the lead.

From the moment, the whistle blew for the last quarter Wyndham knew that they needed to keep calm and retain the lead. Wyndham did let their guard down enabling Abbey to pull even, with both teams now fighting for the lead Wyndham had to dig deep and fight hard to make every turnover count. Everyone worked tirelessly to get the ball to the shooters, take back the lead and get the win they deserved. It worked. Wyndham took the final Quarter 37-33

A fantastic team effort and a well deserved win. Well done every one.

Reckleford V Aldon
Final score - 39-32

Reckleford Rockets played a mid-week against fellow club members Aldon. With it being an inter club match tension was high and the nerves kicked in.

Aldon came out strong and Reckleford had to step up the game to stay with them. There was some great play from both teams. The Aldon defence stood strong against Reckleford shooters. Unfortunately, Reckleford defence sustained an injury in the first quarter and it did disrupt their rhythm. The end of the first quarter Reckleford ended it just ahead of Aldon. 10-9.

The second quarter was just as tough as the first. Both teams had determination on their side. A few errors from both teams meant it was very evenly matched. There were some fantastic turn overs from Aldon defence and converted by there ever moving shooters. Reckleford’s attack turned over some great balls in the centre court and some great shooting in the circle. The quarter ended Reckleford ahead 24-16.

The third quarter saw Reckleford pull away from Aldon. With some great play from all players and managing to convert the goals as well. Aldon didn’t stop fighting through this whole quarter. They made it difficult for Reckleford by doing some great interceptions and converting their goals. This quarter ended 33-21 to Reckleford.

The final quarter saw Aldon pull right back to within a few. They put a lot of pressure on Reckleford but managed to hold on to the win. Final score 39-32.

Thank you to Aldon for a really competitive game. Also thank you to the spectators that supported all of us.

Summerhouse V Doves
Final Score - 34-24

The first quarter got off to a rocky start with Summerhouse becoming 2-0 down in the first couple of minutes. However, the ball was soon turned over with some great interceptions within the defence helping us become 2-2 half way through the first quarter. Summerhouse moved the ball quickly and strongly in a straight line down the court which made Doves find it harder to intercept. The final score of the first quarter was 5-6.

The second quarter was improved with stronger passes however the attacking side was put under pressure from a strong defensive doves team meant they couldn’t convert the goals. Doves then managed to take a 4 goal lead. However, the attack and defence of Summerhouse became more and more alert meaning they picked up some loose balls and used them to end the quarter with a final score of 14-16.

The third quarter had the best standard of play throughout the whole game - Summerhouse’s attack used many skills to get in front of Doves defence and receive the ball in the D ready for a shot. The defenders also made sure Doves struggled to score goals with lots of pressure and excellent marking. Summerhouse made good, fast decisions in this quarter meaning centre passes were used to their advantage. Ending with summerhouse having an 8-goal lead, the final score being 27-19.

The final quarter had a lot of position changes but this didn’t phase the team as everyone adapted to their position nicely. The defence used overhead passes from Doves to their great advantage in this quarter with exceptionally high jumps and power. Summerhouse’s attack used the WA and C accordingly to make space in the D for a shot to be put up - this helped us to stay ahead of Doves. The final score of the game was 34-24.

Overall, Summerhouse had great team spirit and positivity throughout the game and worked well to get the ball in a straight line down the court with flat passes as well as making sure to get in front of their defender.

U16 Regional Seeding Tournament

Yeovil started the morning with an extra hour in bed thanks to the clock changes but it still meant getting out of bed with plenty of time to travel down to Paignton for the Regional Seeding tournament.

The players arrived in good spirits and were looking forward to taking the court and showing off their vast versatility on court.

The games started with a match against Poole. After a slow start the girls found their rhythm but unfortunately lost 29-7.

The next game was straight after against Team Bath and with a 5-4 lead after the first half, Yeovil looked set to take this. Unfortunately, Yeovil were subjected to a lot of errors which meant less possession. Yeovil unfortunately lost 9-13.

After a long lunch break Yeovil were set to play West Exeter Jaguars which looked like a well-matched game. Yeovil unfortunately lost 10-20.

The final game was against Team Jets. Everyone gave it their all and worked hard to keep possession of the ball but unfortunately lost 9-18.

A fabulous tournament in Paignton and despite the scores Yeovil gained a fair share of possession in each match and showed their determination, team spirit and love of netball. Well done all!
