  Netball
Yeovil Netball Club - check out how the teams went at the weekend

BABYLON, sponsored by Potts Law Firm travelled away to Swindon on Sunday to play Nationwide.

Babylon came out fighting with slick movement in attack and pin point defence. Nationwide fought back with some impressive, accurate long range shots. Despite a surprise injury Babylon adjusted smoothly and carried on to extend the lead, the quarter ended 11-17 to Babylon.

The second quarter started in quick pace with turnovers occurring all around the court, nationwide’s effective zone defence allowed them to pick at Babylon’s lead. But Babylon fought back with intense man on defence, getting clean interception as well as the attack feeding precise balls into the shooters.
The second quarter ended 23-29 to Babylon.

With a positive and effective team talk Babylon came back even stronger fighting for goal difference, however the speed on Nationwide’s attack was effortless. Babylon were not rattled and kept pushing getting tips all round the court, the shooters were putting shots up with ease allowing Babylon to maintain the lead. The third quarter ended 33-40

Final quarter was tiring for all, Babylon continued to put pressure on all round but Nationwide’s defence became unbreakable they began to pick at the lead. Babylon fought back staying calm with ball in hand. After a long lasting fight from all players the game finished 45-49 to Babylon allowing them to move to second in the table.

Wyndham (sponsored by Rotork) travelled to Taunton to play Claremont. We were excited to get out on court with our new squad after the Christmas break but knew it would be tough match against the team sitting in second position.

We started the first quarter strong going goal for goal but Claremont got a couple of turnovers and a few quick goals meaning the quarter ended 16-8 to Claremont. Some changes were made down the defensive end and Wyndham continued to work hard getting used to the new combinations. At half time we managed to still hold onto half their score at 30-15.

With a full squad, more changes were able to be made at half time. Wyndham settled into their game in the second half and were able to make some good turnovers and win the ball back but unfortunately this wasn’t always finished with a goal. At third quarter time the score was 41-25. We dug deep in the final quarter, worked the ball through the court and the match ended with a final score of 48-33. We were pleased that we managed to draw the second half of the game - a great achievement for our new squad. There were lots of positives to take from the game along with things to build on for next time.

Reckleford, sponsored by Pro-fit windows and doors played Priory at Taunton Vale this Saturday. We started the quarter with both teams coming out strong, fighting for every ball, unfortunately they pulled a lead of 7-5.

With a goal difference of 2, the whole team went back out there determined to pull a lead, this caused us to get many interceptions and turnovers. However Priory continued to lead meaning the score of this quarter ended 16-15 to them

After the strong fight of the first half behind us, Reckleford came back onto the court with fire in their belly’s. We started to fight back, however after a few silly mistakes they started to gain their lead back. Ending the quarter with a score of 25-23.

With the memory of the third quarter behind us, we started this quarter with defence and attack working as a well oiled unit challenging Priory for every ball, winning many interceptions and putting pressure on them. Leading to us winning the quarter and consequently the match with a final score of 31-30 to Reckleford.

Aldon (sponsored by Morsons Projects) travelled to Taunton vale to play blackdown on a very windy Saturday!

We started the match in amazing style bossing the first quarter with great work all over the court. Blackdown found their rhythm in the 2nd quarter and narrowed the gap.

The 2nd half brought out a determined response from aldon, chasing every ball and never giving up, it all paid off and we won 34 to 30.

A great first game of 2010 with a great team performance with every player giving their all, players player was Gemma and opposition player was Beth.
