Brean members rally to help Hodges

SATURDAY'S Blind Pairs Stableford double up as a fundraising event to help Nigel Hodges a long standing Brean member who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

Hodges who is based in Bristol has become, over the years, quite an expert at being successful in the various blind pairs competitions at Brean so is was only fitting that one was played for his cause.

The winning duo were Gordy Wheelaghan and Jerry Brueford who accrued 77 points between them with Wheelaghan producing the best of the day score with 40. As an odd number of players entered, Nigel Hodges' name also featured in the runners up spot although he didn't play. One card was randomly drawn to go with the extra player and that card went under Nigel's name! Tim Amy carded 36 points and with Nigel (aka Phil Barry) adding 35 they finished second with 71. Third place went to Tony Richards (37) and Stewart Garret (32) on 69.

The total raised for Nigel through the competitions in December and also on the Just Giving page that was set up to help is well over £1500 now and still rising!

A wet and windy Sunday morning saw numbers decimated in the Pro Shop Betterball Stableford event. Only a handful ventured out and it was Club Captain Dave Morgan along with partner Andrew Pound who ended triumphant. They scored 41 points to win by a single point from two pairs who posted 40. The back nine countback saw Dan Williams and Tony Richards edge out Josh Holder and Dan Spelman courtesy of a closing hole birdie by Williams.

Pete Dunn was the winner of the Seniors Pro Shop Stableford on Thursday. Dunn scored a steady 35 points and enjoyed a two point winning margin over the runner up Ron Edmondson. A single point separated Edmondson from two players who posted 32 and it required a countback to decide third place with Neil Barker winning that ahead of Tim Amy.
