The final report from Brean Golf Club before the second lockdown

IN the small window of opportunity between the new World Handicap System being launched and the nationwide Lockdown to golf the Brean Seniors got a chance to test their new handicap indexes.

The two victors though were ones who have been familiar with the surrounds of the winner’s enclosure in recent months. Ron Edmondson led the way with a nett 65 in Division One as he finished one clear of Mike Allen. John Cranley took third on nett 68.

The Division Two players found the conditions much tougher as the early morning rain subsided to leave a stiff but cool breeze to contend with. Ken Ponter was the leading score in the second flight with a nett 72. Mike Short and Vincent Ford both returned nett 74's with the 2019 Seniors Captain Ford beating his successor and 2020 incumbent Short on a countback for 2nd.

From last Thursday morning the golf club and Country Club shut as per the government advice but certainly hope that the golf course at least can re-open on December 2nd when the current lockdown period ends.

Golf has demonstrated a way of operating very safely and successfully over the Summer and had hoped they could continue to do so over this lockdown. The Government deemed otherwise though and the Golf Club hopes all of their members and all the regular visitors to the course in 2020 remain safe and well and they look forward to seeing you all again next month.
