Will Smeed announces his return in style

SOMERSET Academy batsman Will Smeed continued on the comeback trail with a magnificent unbeaten 185 that enabled Somerset Under 17s to beat Warwickshire at the attractive North Perrott Cricket on Monday.

Playing in only his second game after returning to action the 17 year old who has been missing from the cricket scene this summer after undergoing surgery on his shoulder back in the spring spearheaded the Somerset reply to the visitors 300 for five from their 50 overs.

Carrying on from the 243 he made for Somerset Under 17s in their two day game against Gloucestershire last week, Smeed set out his stall from the off and opening the innings he went to his 50 off 27 balls with 10 fours and one 6.

When Somerset lost their second wicket with the total on 96 at the end of the 12th over he was joined by the Under 17 captain, Tom Hall, who is also a team mate of Smeedís at Kingís College.

Smeed continued with his onslaught and went to his century off 59 balls with 14 fours and four 6s.

Hall and Smeed then remained together to see Somerset to an exciting eight wicket victory off 42.3 overs.

Smeedís unbeaten 185 came off 127 balls and included 19 fours and nine 6s, while Hall who played the perfect support role ended not out 88 off 99 deliveries with 13 fours.
