Surprise exit for Baker Cup holders Deane

HOLDERS Taunton Deane have suffered a shock defeat to Wellington in the first round of the 20-overs a side Baker Cup cricket competition.

The Deane, batting first, appeared to be heading for a big score at 130 for 3. But three wickets for Luke Desave and four for Sam Whitefield pulled things back in Wellington's favour, with Wellington eventually needing 144 to win.
Wellington began the run chase quickly with Jack Beal hitting five sixes in a knock of 59.
Whitefield piled on the agony for the Deane with 45 not out while young skipper Arron Campbell was unbeaten on 17 as Wellington won by eight wickets with 23 balls to spare.
Wellington, who had lost their opening two matches in the West of England Premier League, are home to Somerset Division rivals North Petherton in the quarter-finals on Monday, June 3.
Wellington's victory was some consolation for losing by one run at home to Yeovil last weekend.
