Saints win their opening pre-season game

TAUNTON St Andrews CC got their 2019 off to a flying start when they travelled to play a pre-season match against East Molesey on Saturday where they achieved a resounding win.

The Saints won the toss and after choosing to bat openers James Regan with 67 and Robbie Contreras (66) timed the ball well, especially for this time of the season on slow wickets and both found boundaries on a regular occurrence.

East Molesey eventually broke the opening partnership in the 21st over but not before it had added 134 runs.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals until James Hayman with 51 and Justin Burke (23) put on 62 to take the final score to 272 off 40 overs.

East Molesey found things tough going with the tight bowling of Hayman and Harry Clements, and when Luke Poole was introduced into the attack he immediately found success with two wickets in his first over.

With the rate climbing to over 10 an over and wickets falling at regular intervals, it was an impossible task as the hosts were eventually bowled out for 148.

The Master Plumb Man of the Match was James Hayman.

Taunton St Andrews CC travel to Weston -Super-Mare CC next week for their second pre-season game, where play starts at 1pm.
