  Roelof van der Merwe

SOMERSET all rounder Roelof van der Merwe has agreed a one-year contract extension that will see him continue to represent the Club until at least the end of the 2022 season.

He first experience of Somerset came in 2011 when he joined the Club on a short-term contract. He returned in 2016 and since then has become a vital member of the First XI squad across all three formats of the game.

In his time at Somerset, the 36-year-old’s multi-format skills have seen him score over 2100 runs, claim more than 150 wickets and take over 80 catches.

One of the highlights of Roelof’s time with Somerset was a match winning 165 not out in the 2017 Royal London One-Day Cup match against Surrey in Taunton. That innings broke the record for the highest score by a Somerset player in a 50-over match.

These impressive performances saw him awarded with his County Cap in 2018, and he was a key part of Somerset’s Royal London One-Day Cup winning side of 2019.
